How to Ruutu

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

This is more of a how to post than an update on how volleyball is going. I have had multiple people ask me if they can watch our games over here and there is a way to do that. The company that broadcasts our games has a free option to watch games once they have finished (aka not live) and then a paid membership to watch them live.

If you are interested in how to watch games please see the information below (if not, sorry to bore you with this today.)

  1. www.ruutu.com

  2. It is very imperative that you search this on google chrome because the page is in Finnish, so the translate page option works wonders (not sure if other search engines have this option.)

  3. Once on the page you will click on the person icon in the top right corner of the screen (if translated should say log in.)

  4. (These next steps are easy but will not be translated to English so I will try and make it easy for you with inputting the Finnish words and what they mean.) A window will pop up that is the login page. Since you will not have an account yet you want to look for this word Luo Sanoma-tili (Sign up).

  5. Once you click on that it will ask you to input your information (I will list it out how it is asking from left to right.) First Name, Last Name, E-mail, Password, E-mail.

  6. After signing up you will want to Click Sports on the top ribbon.

  7. Look for LML Mestaruusliiga (Volleyball Championship). This is our leagues video page.

  8. The page will then be our league games (women's & men's). A tip that could help you in the future is to hit the heart icon. That action adds this page to your favorites. (Which can be easy to access from the login icon by just clicking the heart, it will take you directly to the webpage for our matches.)

  9. The last step is to scroll down to where it says recordings. These are all the free games you have access to. Our team name is Liigaploki. If you do not see one of our games there should be an arrow on the right of the screen that lets you scroll to other games.

  10. Now once you are logged in, all you will have to do is click on the login icon it will then show you your favorites (which is why I had you heart the sport page.) This should make maneuvering the site much easier.

The games are in chronological order so our most recent games will be at the beginning. Some games are longer than others - depends on how the game went of course. Something that is new in our league that is different from the US is that in between set 2 and 3 there is an 18 minute break (not just like 10 minutes which is what we had in college.) Just a heads up that you will want to fast forward through that part!

When watching if you find the game that we played at LP Viesti, it was a few weeks ago so you would have to scroll pretty far back; I was interviewed at the beginning of the match. It plays during our warm up on the video. I'm sure it will give you a good laugh (some things might have gotten lost in translation.)

There is also sound so if you like hearing the game like that, it will be an option. The commentators on the game do speak in Finnish - so you will not understand much probably.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me as I have had to help my parent's maneuver the site multiple times...they aren't the most tech savvy. I will not judge; it can be confusing the first couple of times.

Hope you enjoy watching the games! (As much as I do playing in them...)

Until next time,

jaelyn
